About
The Broadway Dental Practice is a family general dental practice providing all aspects of dental care, with an emphasis on high quality treatment. The practice has been serving the communities of Catford and south London since the 1940s. Dr Martin Hussain was principal from 1995-2023 and continues to work full time at the practice as lead dentist. Dr Rachel Oxbrough and Dr Parveen Sehmi became the principals in 2023. Associates Dr Haydon Murr and Dr Kenneth Lim add the experience and skills that mean all aspects of modern dentistry are available.
Staff
The team is completed by three dental nurses noted for their cheerfulness and friendly manner. Diane Austin joined The Broadway Dental Practice in 1989 while Jenny Waugh-Datadeen was recruited in 2002. The management and smooth running of the practice is in the capable hands of our Practice Manager, Jacqui Coveney, another team member who has been here since 1989. With our highly experienced team and fully equipped modern practice we offer the highest standard of dental care to both NHS and private patients.
Excellent service once again.

CQC inspection report
- Respecting and involving people who use services
- Care and welfare of people who use services
- Safeguarding people who use services from abuse
- Cleanliness and infection control
- Safety, availability and suitability of equipment
- Requirements relating to workers
The Care Quality Commission have published their April 2013 inspection report of essential quality and safety standards at our practice, and we are pleased to have met all of their standards:
‘The Broadway Dental Practice was a clean and professionally managed dental practice. Staff had a strong focus on ensuring a positive experience for patients. The positive atmosphere among staff and patients was clear during our visit, where we observed very personal greetings among staff and patients. The practice was able to accommodate patients who use a wheelchair.
People who use the service were very positive in their reviews of the service and staff, and told us that all treatment options and associated costs were fully explained during their visits. There were suitable safeguarding and emergency arrangements in place in order to ensure patient safety.
Patient feedback was collected on a live system. We reviewed comments from the past year and found all to be very positive, including remarks such as “fantastic”, “the best dental practice I’ve been to” and “I wouldn’t go anywhere else”. Feedback from the live surveys was regularly audited and the practice additionally carried out in-person surveys. However, many patients were long-standing and staff told us that they were likely to speak up if there is an issue, for example waiting times. The provider demonstrated that any concerns were promptly responded to.
People who use the service spoke very positively about how they were treated by staff at the practice, and told us that they felt they were treated with respect. All discussions were held confidentially within the surgical suite.’

Letters from grateful patients
You beat all of them with your bedside manner. My son loved his visit.
“My son attends the London Early Years Foundation Nursery, and I explained to nursery how amazing you were with him. They were interested as they know how children can battle dentists. He loved his visit, and opened his mouth wide for you and was very happy to let you scrape his teeth. His father is a dermatologist doctor at Lewisham and Greenwich and my parents are doctors, but you beat all of them with your bedside manner. My son loved his visit, that is very special and my father enjoyed hearing all about it too. We will see you next year and I am glad all is well with the teeth.”
A pivotal point in growing my confidence.
“Hi Martin,
It is long overdue, but I just wanted to drop you a note to give you a huge thank you for the work you did on my teeth. I was looking back at pictures of this Christmas where I either hide my teeth or hate them but just I don’t any more. I think I will look back at this as a pivotal point in growing my confidence and for that I am very grateful to you.”
I would never have imagined it could have been so easy.
“Thank you all so much for the wonderful care we received at our recent visit. I was slightly apprehensive about the logistics of getting my two children’s teeth checked as well as my own. However, from the moment we arrived everything flowed really smoothly. The way you involved my son in explaining how teeth work and gave him the opportunity to peer into my mouth with the mirror meant he was fascinated. My daughter absolutely loved the goggles and the chance to help sign on the machine at the end. Our visit turned into an interesting afternoon out, and has made ensuring the children’s teeth are cleaned much easier – they will open their mouth like at the dentist. I would never have imagined that having my teeth cleaned and polished with two children watching could have been so easy. Thank you again – we will be looking forward to our check up next year!”
A nervous(ish) patient who actually now looks forward to appointments!
“I found the Broadway practice by chance, I can not believe how lucky I am, I have had a fair amount of excellent treatment, a nervous(ish) patient who actually now looks forward to appointments! The results are dramatically amazing. My dentist is the most patient person, discussing and talking through every step of your treatment. The nurses are just lovely – the staff clearly has fabulous relationships with every patient registered. I cannot thank everyone enough.”
An enormous impact on my future health.
“Please accept my sincere thanks for the kindness and patience you showed when we met, which has helped to heal some of the past injuries which acted as a barrier to treatment. While my time within your practice was short, it has had an enormous impact on my future health. Thank you for that.”
I think I have found my dentist for life!
“From My first call to book an appointment, all the way through to minimal treatment that I needed, the dentist and dental nurse were really really excellent. The dentist explained everything that was going on in, the procedure was performed with care and my level of comfort was taken in to consideration all the way through. No pain, great new smile, very reasonably priced and very very clear instuctions. I can highly recommend this practice and team, the receptionist also needs a mention with her happy knowledgable manner! Thank you all I think I have found my dentist for life!”
I cannot stop smiling!
“Dear Martin and the team at Broadway Dental Practice,
It’s taken me a few weeks to sit down and write this message because I’ve found it challenging to find the words to express how deeply grateful and happy I feel to be your patient and for the work that you have performed.
A few weeks ago, I came in to have my last remaining teeth extracted. I used to consider myself an incredibly nervous patient and found my fear of dentists and dentistry overwhelming at times. However, after the procedure I am proud of myself for overcoming one of my greatest fears! I know for a fact that I could not have done it without your support and encouragement. In fact, Martin, you are the first person, and dentist, that I have trusted in a very long time and because of your kindness and professionalism, I have been able to take the first (major) steps to better dental hygiene, better health and a better me overall and I could not be happier!
I love my new smile, albeit a temporary one. But I cannot stop smiling. People tell me I’m glowing. And I’m not ashamed to tell people that I’ve had oral surgery and that I wear dentures. It’s almost becoming a badge of honor – I neglected myself but now I’m being strong enough to correct that! And if I can change, any one can.
This process has had a greater impact on my life and I thank you for that. I now have a better diet. I have stopped smoking completely. I have even started a change jar which I have named my fitness fund. Most importantly is that I’ve enrolled myself in University. I’ll be returning to uni in October to begin my BA (Hons) in combined social sciences. Overcoming my fear and making real change has opened up a whole new world for me. When you asked me where that fear came from, I told it was a family thing. I am very blessed to come from a close family but I think we can also be taught to be afraid of things that our parents or siblings are afraid of. Since I’ve been receiving treatment, my entire family have registered and begun treatments too. My sisters have had fillings and my Dad has started his own journey of dental recovery and restoration.
I wonder if you’ll ever know just how much of an impact you have had on my life. Still, I find it hard to express to you how much it has meant to me and how deeply grateful I am to you! And to the NHS for the opportunity to receive treatment I wouldn’t be able to afford at this point in my life.”
To be given back my smile is to be given back my confidence.
“I am so happy with my treatment! I was involved in every step of the consultation and able to ask questions at each and every step. I was such a phobic patient but really had no need to be at this practice. To be given back my smile is to be given back my confidence. I thank each and every person at the Broadway for their friendliness and professionalism… but mostly for my smile!”
Complaints, Comments, Concerns, Compliments
We operate a patient-based complaints procedure to ensure that we remain sensitive to your needs and feelings. We aim to provide patients with the best care we can, but occasionally we can sometimes fall short of the mark.
If you have any compliments, comments, concerns or complaints about our service, we want to hear about it. We would encourage you to speak to whoever you feel most comfortable with – your dentist, dental nurse a receptionist or manager – but if you would prefer to give your feedback in writing please send it to Jacqueline Coveney, Practice Manager at the practice address. You can also send a message via the website.
If you have a complaint to make, please don’t be afraid to say how you feel. Your comments will give us a chance to offer an explanation or make an apology for the offending situation, take corrective action, prevent problems recurring, and continue to improve the quality of the care that we give.
If you are not satisfied with the practice’s response to your complaint, you may contact the Dental Complaints Service for complaints concerning private treatment, or the NHS South London for complaints concerning NHS treatment. Further information about making a complaint is available from the NHS choices website.
